Our sauteed mushrooms and onions with ptitim recipe is a flavorful dish that combines the old Israeli couscous with a little modern twist!

Sauteed Mushrooms and Onions With Ptitim

Ingredients

  • 3 cups orzo
  • 3 tbsp. oil
  • 3½ cups boiling water
  • 2 large onions (cut into strips)
  • 1 tsp. onion soup mix
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • 1 package fresh mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1 bell pepper (diced)
  • 1 garlic clove

Instructions

  • Add two tablespoons of oil into a pan and dry the onions until translucent.
  • After that, add the orzo, salt, pepper, and onion soup mix, then stir everything together.
  • Once all the ingredients are well-combined, add boiling water, lower the heat, and let it simmer for 10–12 minutes.
  • As the ingredients are cooking, add a tablespoon of oil to a hot wok and stir-fry the onion strips.
  • Then, add the mushrooms, bell pepper, and one crushed garlic clove.
  • Season the mixture with salt and pepper, and stir-fry until the mushrooms are soft and tender.
  • Finally, add this mixture to the cooked orzo, mix it well, and enjoy!
