Frequently Asked Questions:
One-Bowl Marble Cake
Doesn’t it come out too sweet?
No, because the cocoa is bitter, which helps balance out the sweetness of the other ingredients.
Should I squeeze half a lemon or half an orange?
You don’t need the juice, but rather the zest. I prefer to use lemon zest because it helps bring out the flavors more.
What can I replace the milk or orange juice with?
You can substitute them with heavy cream or coconut milk.
Can I bake it in a medium-sized tin pan?
Yes, you can. Just keep in mind that the cake will come out lower.

- 1½ tbsp. vanilla sugar (20 g)
- 1¾ cups sugar
- 5 eggs (beaten)
- ¾ cups oil
- 1 cup orange juice or milk
- Orange or lemon zest (from a half orange/lemon)
- 3 tbsp. cocoa powder
Instructions
- First, combine the flour, vanilla sugar, and sugar in a bowl.
- Make a hole in the middle of the mixture and pour in the beaten eggs one by one.
- Then add the oil, orange juice or milk, and orange/lemon zest.
- Mix by hand.
- Next, pour ¾ of the batter into an oiled 9” round pan or a Bundt pan (if you pour it into a bigger pan, the cake will come out lower).
- Add cocoa powder to the batter that is left in the bowl, hand-mix well, and pour into the pan over the white batter.
- Use a toothpick to create swirls in the batter.
- Bake on the second lowest rack of the oven in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 40 minutes, or until a toothpick poked into the center of the cake comes out dry.
- Allow to cool on a rack for 10–15 minutes. Then flip it over and cut into slices.
