Frequently Asked Questions: garlic flatbread recipe
How much of the herb mixture should I add?
As a rule of thumb for this recipe, add a handful of the herbs mixture for every two cups of flour. If you prepare the flatbread recipe in full measurements, about two handfuls of the herbs should be enough.
Will herb flatbread affect the taste if I don’t add the basil?
If you don’t normally like how basil tastes, you don’t have to add it to the herb flatbread recipe. The taste of the flatbread won’t change much.
Can I freeze the garlic flat bread dough for later use?
Yes, you can store the dough balls in the freezer after it’s had enough time to rise. When you want to cook the bread, let the balls thaw first.
I don’t get when and how to add the herbs, vegetables, and cream. Does everything go in the garlic flatbread dough?
This herb flatbread recipe is very simple! Just knead all the ingredients together, including the herbs, vegetables, and sour cream. The flatbread dough will be smooth once everything is well incorporated.
Can I bake the flatbread dough in the oven?
Yes, it should work just fine.
Why do we add sour cream to the flatbread dough?
Because it makes the bread a lot softer.

Quick Garlic Herb Flatbread Recipe In A Pan
Equipment
Ingredients
Recipe for garlic flatbread
- 4 Cups All-purpose flour ((18 oz/520 grams))
- 1 tbsp Yeast ((0.5 oz/ 3.5 grams))
- 2 tbsp Sugar ((1 oz/28 grams))
- 1 tbsp Salt ((2 grams))
- 3 tbsp olive oil ((1.5 fl oz/45 millilitres))
- 3/4 cup Warm Water ((6 fl oz/ 180 millilitres))
- 0.85 cup of sour cream, room temperature (or the same amount of whole milk) ((7 fl oz/200 millilitres))
- 2 Handfull chopped parsley, dill, coriander, green onion leaves, and celery leaves
- 1 teaspoon Chopped Basil ((2 grams))
Instructions
For flatbread recipe with yeast
- In a large bowl, add the flour.
- Using a wooden spoon, stir in the salt, sugar, yeast, sour cream, and oil.
- Add the water and mix well.
- Collect the mixture and transfer it onto a floured surface.
- Knead the mixture for about 5 minutes.
- Add the herbs and vegetables, then knead the mixture for an extra 5 minutes.
- When the dough feels soft, smooth, and even, make it into one large ball and place it in an oiled bowl.
- Cover the bowl with a towel and allow the dough to rest for at least 50 minutes in a warm spot.
- After the wait, remove the towel and you should note a risen dough. Take it out from the bowl and place it on a floured surface.
- Fold the dough to let some of the air out then cut it into 15 balls.
- Grab a small frying pan and spray it (or lightly coat it) with some olive. Place it on the stove and turn on the heat to medium.
- For each ball, knead it over a floured surface with your palm to open it into a circle-like shape.
- Make sure the pan is very hot before you transfer the open dough to the pan. Once the dough makes contact with the hot pan, turn the heat down a bit to avoid burning the bread while it fries.
- Fry for approximately 2 minutes until golden brown spits are formed, then flip the bread and fry the other side for the same time.
- Take out the flatbread, let it cool down, and enjoy!
- Tips
- To store leftover bread, keep it in the fridge and reheat it later on. You can use the microwave (on medium settings to avoid a chewy crust) or you can use the oven (for 5 minutes at 200°F).
- To change things up, feel free to incorporate toasted garlic, cumin seeds, or your favorite cheese into the dough in step 6.
