Frequently Asked Questions:
Ground Beef and Mashed Potatoes
Can I make this recipe without a muffin pan?
Yes, you can. However, a muffin pan gives you neat, uniform shapes.
How can I serve the mashed potatoes without crushing them?
Don’t worry; they won’t get crushed. Mashed potatoes contain plenty of starch, so they’re firmer than you think.

Ground Beef and Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients
- 6 potatoes
- 1 lbs. ground beef (½ kg)
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Parsley (chopped)
- Onion (chopped)
- 2 tbsp. oil
- Baharat
- A bit of cinnamon
- 1 tsp. hot sauce (optional)
- ½ jar tomato sauce
Instructions
Mashed potatoes:
- Fill a large pot with water and add a little salt. When it boils, drop the unpeeled potatoes and let them cook until they’re soft.
- Drain the water, then start peeling the potatoes. Be careful while doing this because the potatoes will be very hot.
- Mash the peeled potatoes in a large bowl, then add salt, black pepper, and parsley.
- Start kneading the mashed potatoes using your hands or a mashing spatula.
- Grab your muffin pan, and start filling its cavities with mashed potatoes. Leave the potatoes inside for 5–10 minutes or until they get firm, then release them from the pan.
- Using a teaspoon, dig a medium-sized hole in the potato cups to make room for the ground beef.
Ground beef filling:
- Grab a cast iron skillet and heat 2 tablespoons of oil in it. Then, drop the chopped onion and fry it until transparent.
- Add the beef and start smashing it using a wooden spoon to make sure there are no chunks or big pieces.
- Add salt, Baharat, black pepper, and a tiny bit of cinnamon for seasoning. If you want some spice, add one teaspoon of hot sauce.
- Keep stirring the beef, making sure it’s not clumping up.
- Add half a jar of tomato sauce, then stir until all ingredients are mixed well. Lower the heat and let the beef cook until it releases its fats.
- When the sauce steams and the water content in the pan is low, add the other half of the tomato sauce jar. Keep the heat low and let the beef cook until it’s tender and ready to eat.
- Add some chopped parsley and give the beef a couple of stirs. Turn the heat off, close the pot’s lid, and leave it for 5 minutes.
- Remove the lid, and start filling the mashed potato cups with the ground beef.
- When you’re done, serve and enjoy!
