The Easiest Crispy Baked Cauliflower Recipe
Equipment
Ingredients
- 1 whole cauliflower (rinsed and cleansed)
- All-purpose flour (in a plate)
- Breadcrumbs (in a plate)
- 1 egg
- 3 tbsp. olive oil
- ½ tsp. salt
- ¼ tsp. black pepper
- ½ tsp. red paprika
- 2 tbsp. sesame seeds
Instructions
- Clean the cauliflower head and remove any leaves.
- Submerge it in a bowl of cold water to remove bugs and dirt (any debris will float away).
- While the cauliflower head is soaking, place a pot of water with a teaspoon of salt over high heat and bring it to a boil.
- Rinse the cauliflower and place it in the boiling water.
- After about eight minutes, remove it carefully so it doesn’t fall apart, and allow it to cool completely.
- Slice the cauliflower head into ¾”-1” (2–3 cm) thick slices (fan-shaped).
- Fill a plate with a good amount of all-purpose flour and dip in each slice to cover well from both sides (breadcrumbs can work as an alternative).
- In another plate, beat an egg with three tablespoons of olive oil.
- Add half a teaspoon of salt, a quarter teaspoon of black pepper, half a teaspoon of red paprika, and two tablespoons of sesame seeds to the mixture.
- Mix everything well using a fork, and you have your batter.
- Take each slice of cauliflower, dip both sides into the batter, and wait for a few minutes.
- Transfer the slices to a third plate full of breadcrumbs to coat them.
You have two options for cooking:
- Baking: Put the slices over an oiled, parchment-paper-lined baking pan and place in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) until crispy.
- Frying: Fry the slices on both sides in a frying pan like you do with schnitzel until golden.
