Did you know that halva is made from tahini? Yes that tahini.. the one you use when eating shawarma! who would have thought right?

All you have to do is literally add some carmalized sugar to the tahini and you’ll end up with the best homemade halva recipe in the block!

You can also go crazy with nuts if thats you’r thing. Now..Go and try it and tell us how it went!

You cant skip the sugar but you can add honey towards the end.

Nope, you’ll just end up with a tahini sauce, you can try a sugar substitute instead

You can definitely reduce the amount of sugar, and it wouldn’t affect the amount of water needed.

Best Homemade Halva Recipe

Preparation Time: 30 minutes mins

Cuisine: Mediterranean, Turkish

Ingredients

  • 4 heaping tbsp. raw tahini
  • 5 heaping tbsp. sugar
  • 3 tbsp. water

Instructions

  • Put the Tahini in a stainless steel bowl, and mix until the texture is smooth.
  • Put the sugar in a small pot, and heat up on a medium-sized flame for about a minute.
  • Add the water and keep stirring until the sugar turns into caramel.
  • Add a spoonful of the caramel into the Tahini bowl, and mix well.
  • Repeat until all the caramel is mixed with the Tahini, and keep mixing until the texture is sand-like.
  • When the texture is sand-like, the Halva is ready. Transfer it to a small glass container, pat it down, and press it with a spoon tightly until completely packed.
  • Let it rest, and cut it when it hardens a bit.
  • Its possible to store it in the fridge but its not necessary.
