Apple Strudel With Phyllo Dough
Equipment
Ingredients
- 1 package phyllo dough sheets
- 6 Granny Smith apples (thinly sliced)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tsp. cinnamon
- ¾ cup plain breadcrumbs
- ¾ cup golden raisins (chopped)
- ¾ cup walnut nibs
- Zest from 1 lemon
- ½ cup lemon juice
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 1¾ sticks butter (melted (200 g))
Instructions
- Mix the granulated sugar, breadcrumbs, lemon zest, and cinnamon in a medium-sized bowl.
- Gently spread out the phyllo dough sheets.
- Take one phyllo sheet, place it widthwise, then brush it with the melted butter.
- Repeat the process again until you have a stack of five buttered sheets.
- Take half of the brown sugar and lightly spread it widthwise over the third of the sheet stack right in front of you.
- Gently put ½ the amount of apples on top of the sugar.
- After that, place half the chopped raisins and walnut nibes, then sprinkle ½ the breadcrumbs—we’re using half measurements because the amounts yield two rolls!
- Roll the dough into a cylinder, use a fork to create some notches, then give it a good brush with melted butter.
- Repeat the same process with the second strudel.
- Bake both at 340°F (170°C) for about 45 minutes.
- Enjoy the strudels with powdered sugar, a mouthwatering vanilla ice cream scoop, or a caramel sauce drizzle!
