What can I use instead of cinnamon?

The cinnamon adds a lot of flavor to the cake. You can make it without cinnamon but it’s a shame to give it up.


What can I use instead of the chocolate-milk mix?

You can replace it with 1 tablespoon of chocolate spread or hazelnut spread (like Nutella), but don’t use cocoa.


Can I replace brown sugar with vanilla sugar?

You can skip the brown sugar altogether.


What can I use instead of the orange juice?

Heavy cream.


Can self-rising flour work in this recipe?

Yes, but don’t add the baking powder.

Equipment

Universal Measuring Cup
9” x 13” baking pan or 2 English-cake pans

Ingredients

  • 4 XL eggs
  • 1 cup sugar (200 g)
  • 2½ cups flour (300 g)
  • 2½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¾ cup orange juice
  • ¾ cup oil
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate milk mix
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

Instructions

  • In a bowl, add the eggs, sugar, orange juice, oil, flour, baking powder, salt, and vanilla extract. Mix until you get a smooth batter.
  • Take out about ½ a cup of the batter and set aside.
  • Mix the chocolate-milk mix, cinnamon, and brown sugar into the batter.
  • Pour a bit more than half the amount of the light batter (from the cup) into the baking pan.
  • Pour the dark batter over the light batter in the pan.
  • Pour the rest of the light batter on top.
  • Lightly mix to create a swirl appearance.
  • Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let it cool then serve.
